Pudsey & Farsley Royal British Legion: building a *digital home* for a busy local branch

A clearer online presence for a branch at the heart of its community

Pudsey & Farsley Royal British Legion is an active local branch supporting veterans, serving personnel and their families through remembrance, fundraising and community events.

The branch needed a website that properly reflected the work happening throughout the year, not just around Remembrance Sunday. It needed to be welcoming, easy to navigate and simple for visitors to find upcoming events, branch news and ways to get involved.

I designed and developed a new WordPress website that brings all of that activity together in one clear, manageable place.

The live site now gives dedicated space to the branch’s mission, events, remembrance work, news and contact information, while linking visitors to membership and donation routes through the wider Royal British Legion.

The Challenge

The branch was doing plenty in the real world, but its online presence was not telling that story clearly.

Visitors needed an easier way to understand who the branch supports, what it does locally and when events were taking place. Important information was spread across social media and individual updates, making it harder for people to find reliable details later.

The website also needed to work for a broad audience. That meant keeping navigation straightforward, avoiding unnecessary clutter and making the most important information easy to reach on any device.

Bringing events, news and community work together

he site was structured around the information visitors are most likely to need: details about the branch, upcoming events, remembrance activity, recent news and clear ways to make contact or become a member.

Dedicated event listings allow the branch to promote meetings, fundraising activity and community gatherings with dates, times and locations presented consistently.

A flexible news section gives the branch somewhere permanent to share stories, commemorate individuals and document its work beyond the lifespan of a social media post. The homepage then pulls the latest updates and upcoming events into one useful overview.

A website that feels like the branch it represents

The design needed to respect the Royal British Legion identity without feeling like a copy of the national website.

I used strong typography, clear layouts and photography from local events to give the site its own sense of place. The result feels recognisably connected to the organisation while still belonging specifically to Pudsey and Farsley.

The focus throughout was warmth and accessibility. This is a community organisation, not a government portal where useful information goes to hide behind seventeen dropdowns.

Built for regular updates without technical faff

Because the branch runs events and publishes updates throughout the year, the website needed to be practical behind the scenes as well as polished at the front.

I built the site in WordPress with reusable content structures for events, news and core pages. This keeps updates consistent and makes it straightforward to add new activity without rebuilding layouts each time.

That gives the branch a website it can continue using as its work grows, rather than something that looks lovely on launch day and becomes archaeological evidence six months later.

The Outcome

The finished website gives Pudsey & Farsley Royal British Legion a clear digital home for everything it does locally.

Visitors can quickly learn about the branch, discover upcoming events, read community stories and find the right route to get involved. The branch now has a more professional and dependable way to communicate its work throughout the year, while keeping the site easy to update as new events and initiatives are added.

The outcome is not about flashy technology. It is a useful, welcoming website that helps a busy volunteer-led organisation stay visible, organised and connected.
